Instructions

How each test is conducted, how this simulator times it, and what happens to your responses. Timings below are the standard SSB timings; they can be changed in Settings if your board briefs you differently.

In the day-wise program, SRT is practised in parts of 10 situations at the same 30-second pace. The full 60-situation booklet is available in SRT practice and in the full simulation.

TAT · Thematic Apperception Test

01A series of pictures will be shown one after another. The last slide is blank.
02Each picture is displayed for the observation time. Study it carefully - it will be removed when writing begins.
03When the picture is removed, write a story: what led to the situation, what is happening now, and what the outcome will be.
04For the blank slide, write a story on any theme of your choice.
05The next picture appears automatically when writing time ends. Your story is saved as you type.

WAT · Word Association Test

01Words will appear one at a time on the screen.
02Write the first thought that comes to mind, preferably as a meaningful sentence using the word.
03Do not overthink. Maintain the pace - the word changes automatically.
04If you miss a word, leave it and move on to the new word. Do not go back.
05Every response is saved against its word as you type.

SRT · Situation Reaction Test

01Situations from everyday life are given. Each ends with “He..”.
02Write how you would react in that situation - briefly and practically.
03The whole booklet is timed together. Manage your own pace: about 30 seconds per situation.
04Move to the next situation with the Next button or Ctrl + Enter.
05Attempt as many situations as you can. The booklet is submitted automatically when time ends.

PPDT · Picture Perception & Discussion Test

01A hazy picture will be shown for the observation time. Observe the characters, their mood and the setting.
02When the picture is removed, record the number of characters and, for each, gender, approximate age and mood.
03Then write a story based on the picture, including the action taking place.
04After writing, a narration practice stage lets you rehearse telling your story aloud within one minute.
05The group discussion that follows at SSB cannot be simulated alone - practice it with fellow aspirants.

Esc - leave fullscreen or close dialogs

Autosave & recovery

Responses are saved continuously. If the page refreshes or closes during a test you will see “An unfinished test was found” and can resume; the stage timer continues from where it stopped. Switching browser tabs does not pause the timer.

Practice, not assessment

Fullscreen mode helps concentration but cannot stop you switching applications. Reports show objective statistics only, with no personality, OLQ or recommendation judgements.

About the content

All situations, words and pictures come from the SOLDIER UNPLUGGED source files, with their original wording. The source picture file does not label pictures as TAT or PPDT: the hazy, photographic pictures are used for PPDT (matching the PPDT picture style) and the rest for TAT. Some source pictures carry a printed caption; they are shown as supplied.
